According to Hobbes, the lives of individuals in the state of nature were “solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short”, a state in which self-interest and the absence of rights and contracts prevented the “social”, or society. Life was “anarchic”. Imagine the conditions of living in such state where everyone is a law unto himself. This underlines that for peaceful coexistence of two beings in a society; there must be laws present to preserve the rights of every citizen and even foreigners alike. This is the importance of the law in making sure that no one is shortchanged and the sanctity of life is preserved. * Drive social transformation: One attribute of good laws is that they are able to drive positive social changes and transformation in the society. They are also agents of modernization. RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE LAW AND SOCIETY
Laws and Legal system reflects all the energy of life within in any society. The practice of law cannot be applied in a vacuum, because laws are made for the society to drive us in the direction that is assumed right and prohibit the drifting of the society to the wrong direction. However many theorists, have questioned the painting of a law to be right or wrong because of the belief of majority of the population.
